Reader Question: What would need to change in your household to stop you from using plastic wrap?
I HATE plastic wrap. It is evil. It is single use plastic at its worse. Most kitchens use it and most kitchens add to plastics in landfill and ocean without even thinking about it.
I use plates to cover bowls of left overs, reused milk container boxes or just tea-towels. But, I now have something way more trendy looking than my daggy old tea-towels and something worthy of public viewing at a yummy-mummy picnic.
At a leadership conference recently, Liz from Tasmania (pictured, isn’t she gorgeous…and she’s got 5 kids!) showed me some wax wraps her Blue Mountains girlfriend made. BEAUTIFUL is all I can say. She did a couple of folds, made a little satchel from the wrap and filled it with yummies. Because of the wax, the parcel stands up AND moulds to the shape of what ever it wraps around. Lizzie’s fruit and nut made such a beautiful food parcel that I had immediate wax envy and couldn’t wait to order my own (which I’ve now done).
The wraps are hand made by a sick-of-plastic-in-lunch-boxes Mum, in the shed behind her home, in the Blue Mountains. “They are made with four ingredients: 100% cotton, pure local beeswax, tree gum and jojoba oil, all completely natural and sustainable. By infusing the cotton with this wax blend, the wraps combine the antibacterial properties of the ingredients with all the great qualities of waxed cloth.”
Let me ask you again: What would need to change in your household to stop you from using plastic wrap?
Ditch the plastic wrap but keep talking garbage you mob.
Love you heaps
